Pedal steel guitar description

A pedal steel guitar is usually rectangular in shape, and has not any resonant chamber or usual guitar body but simply one or more guitar necks. These necks are mounted on top of a stand and set with foot pedals and generally knee levers. A lot of models feature 2 necks, the nearest to the player most often with a C6 tuning and the farther away with an E9 tuning.

The pedal steel guitar configuration

The most frequent configuration is 1 or 2 necks of 10 strings each, but 8 string and 12 string necks are popular too, and even fourteen strings on 1 neck can be found; 3 neck instruments are less frequent than those with 1 or 2, but are not unusual. The pedals or/and knee levers (engaged by moving the knees right, left or up and down) on the underside let the player to tighten or relax 1 or more strings in combination, varying the instrument's tuning in the performance.
